ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACCOLADES from November News Letter
Brianna Maynard
Another champion is borne from good Aviation stock with Brianna taking out the Auckland Ladies
Champion of Champions for 2010 at the Royal Auckland Golf Club on Monday 1 November. She also
competed recently in the Rosebowl team event played at Pukekohe with her team finishing in
second place and just a few days ago she competed in the 54 Grange Tournament finishing a very
credible third. These outstanding achievements have culminated with Brianna being selected at
No.3 in the Auckland inter-provincial team which will travel to Wellington next month to play in the
inter-provincial tournament to be held at the Miramar Golf Club. Brianna was also successful in
defending her title as champion of the Maramarua 54 Hole last weekend.
Congratulations go to Brianna for her achievements and we wish her all the best for her coming
challenge.

SPECIAL ACCOLADES – WOW!!
Brianna Maynard
This young lady is one of the club’s most promising golfers and we are delighted to advise members that she recently shot 66 to win 5 & 4 against Titirangi and in her second outing she shot 65 to win 5 & 4 against Pakuranga. Both these wins in the Betty Faesan pennant comp - This will be worth a look from the Auckland selectors!
Seepa Semau has also performed well in the Betty Faesan team - with a half against Titirangi & a win against Pakuranga - her handicap 7 strokes higher than her opposition and Betty Faesan is off the stick.
These are absolutely astounding scores. Keep up the good work or is it “go for it girlfriend.”

Introduction

The Aviation Country Club has a history of developing junior golfers from beginners into top players, and some have even gone on to become golf professionals.

We welcome all levels of golfers … from the “Guns” to the “Which stick do I use??” type of golfer. We develop our younger players with both their golf skills as well as their life skills as we have a range of competitions – both within the juniors as well as with our regular members and at all stages of the game we encourage interaction between our younger and older members.

Our Juniors

Our juniors have a number of tournaments throughout the year and also are selected to represent the club at both junior and senior levels in our inter-club competitions (Pennants). We have juniors in both the senior men’s and women’s pennant teams and are a credit to their club. There are also a number of current juniors representing Auckland and participating in the Auckland Development squads for up-and-coming juniors that the province is keeping an eye on. We are also privileged to have a current junior who has represented NZ in international golf tournaments and is looking to move to the US to take up a golf scholarship at a well known US College. This person also took part in the inaugural NZ Women’s Open that was played in January 2009 at the Clearwater Golf Club in Christchurch

Aviation Development Programme

We are putting in place a programme to assist our juniors in developing their golf skills. This programme is self-paced so that there is no pressure on the kids, and they can go through at a pace that they are comfortable with. By establishing this programme, we have made it easy for the kids to acquire the basic skills to be able to play the game, and also allow the parents to participate in helping their kids get better. The programme is going to allow both the kids and their parents to see what stage their golf is at by establishing a number of skill tests that they have to go through in order to move to the next stage.

We also have a monthly coaching clinic with our local pro – Trevor Marshall.
